Cube - Science Center and Planetarium

Cube = the human framework of knowledge.
Science = the process that continuously expands this framework.
Planetarium = a gateway to infinity.
The Science Centre and Planetarium is a place where human beings encounter the infinite – through knowledge. The cube, as an archetypal rational form, symbolises the human endeavour for order and logic. Within it, however, unfolds an infinite, layered world of knowledge, experimentation, and imagination.
Outside a rational form - inside infinite content.

The cube is a symbol of measurability and precision – the foundation of science. Yet its content is fluid, experimental, and open, much like the universe itself. The cubic shape is a metaphor for knowledge, which strives to grasp that which is truly boundless. The planetarium atop the cube symbolises infinity – the point at which the rational transforms into the infinite.

Initial impression – reason: Entry into an austere, precise cube. Materials and light are controlled, pure, almost sterile.
The process of discovery – curiosity: The Raumplan guides the visitor through shifting levels; light unfolds, and spaces open up and intertwine. Each level reveals a different aspect of science – from the microcosm to the cosmos.
Climax – planetarium: The culmination of the cube is a spherical space – a contrast between the rational shell and the organic core. A symbol of the transformation of knowledge: from the precise to the infinite.
